An underwater deep listening experience that immerses a floating and diving audience in surreal soundscapes. Wet Sounds transforms the swimming pool space with light, video ,multi-channel sound and performance over water and underwater.

Joel Cahen plays a surreal composition through one, two or three distinct sound systems arranged in the space. Over the years, guest artists such as Pierre Henry, Nurse With Wound, Cluster, Mira Calix, Eric La Casa and many more have been commissioned to perform new work for Wet Sounds.

Wet Sounds has installed at swimming pools worldwide since 2008 including four British tours (funded by Arts Council England and Creative Scotland and as part of the Sound and Music Portfolio scheme) and a Scandinavian tour. Joel Cahen has curated three listening galleries from work created especially for underwater listening from sound artists.

Since 2010, Wet Sounds has expanded to establish a charity which provides bespoke underwater listening sessions for children with complex needs at hydrotherapy pools at special schools. more on this on the Liquid Vibrations website.
